are facing right now in the cost of obama care, the cost of regulation. i think we need stability in the market. we certainly need to help these people. i thought there were some good things like states that have taken the initiative to raise wages, which, of course, is an option that every state would have. cities can do it as well, if the cost of living could make a difference there. also, andrea, i think that brian's idea earlier that you look at having a wage for students to have jobs and learn how to work in the workplace, but then people working to support a family would have maybe a different criteria. i think there are a lot of ways some of these issues could be addressed. congress is facing a lot of issues right now for our country. >> and they are not working very hard. we had four days where both the house and senate are in until the end of the year. ed rendell, i know governors think they have the answer. you were a former governor. congress is unpopular for a reason. there's a reason we know longer have kay bailey hutchison, olympia snowe and others left in frustratio

it was a privilege and honor to be there. the first and only time they met is right after president obama was elected senator in 2005. it was at a hotel here in washington. the president and then senator was not on nelson mandela's schedule but he stayed strong and persevered and he got himself on that schedule. they had a brief meeting and there is an iconic photo take than day by one of the president's aides and that photo hangs in the west wing. >> the only photo that exists of that meeting, by the way. karen travers reporting live from washington. thank you. >>> mandela died at his home surrounded by his youngest daughters who were in london at the time attending a premier about of a film about his life. they asked the film be played until the end. the audience which included prince william, was only told that mandela died as the credits rolled. the marquee lit up in his honor. new york was the first stop on his u.s. tour in 1990. he wanted to go to harlem because the people knew about resistance and fighting for change. stay with abc news as we remember nelson mandela's lel legacy. information a

's right, george. that photo is of a chance encounter that senator barack obama had in a washington hotel room with nelson mandela back in 2005. a copy of it was also in mandela's office in south africa. that is somebody who the president saw, not just as a hero, as a great leader. but also as the person who awakened him to the outside world. in a sense, listening to the president, you get the sense that there would not be a president obama if it were not for nelson mandela. the very first public speech that barack obama ever gave was as a young college student in 1979, for mandela's cause, speaking out against apartheid in south africa. now, president obama hoped to meet one last time with nelson mandela in june when he traveled to south africa. i was on that trip. mandela was in no condition to meet with the president. but he did visit robben island. and there, you see him in the tiny cell that nelson mandela spent 17 years of his years in imprisonment. i can tell you, george, that was quite a trip to africa for the first african-american president. but without question, the emotional h
